Technical briefings
A number of technical briefings have been organised by the SAICM secretariat to provide background technical information on a number of key issues that will be considered by the third session of the International Conference for Chemicals Management.
The objective of the briefings is to introduce the issues to participants and provide an opportunity for the exchange of information. The briefings will be conducted in English only without interpretation.
The following programme will be followed for the technical briefings on Sunday 16 September 2012.
The briefings will take place in Conference room 1, UN Conference centre, Nairobi.

In keeping with the triennial schedule of the International Conference on Chemicals Management as provided for in the Overarching Policy Strategy of the Strategic Approach, the third session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM3) will take place in Nairobi, from 17 to 21 September 2012.
ICCM3 will mark a major milestone in the implementation of the Strategic Approach since its adoption in 2006. For the first time, the Conference will review progress in the implementation of the Strategic Approach with tangible data on the 20 indicators of progress adopted at the second session. The Conference will also evaluate implementation, address emerging policy issues, consider new activities for addition to the Global Plan of Action, evaluate the financing of the Strategic Approach and take strategic decisions for the future. More importantly, the Conference will consider recommendations from the Executive Board of the Quick Start Programme regarding the future of the Programme and its trust fund, as contributions will only be accepted until September 2012. The session will include a high-level segment, incorporating opportunities for formal statements, two roundtable discussions as well as other special events.
The working languages for the third session of the Conference will be Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. The session will be opened on Monday, 17 September, at 10 a.m. and concluded by 6 p.m. on Friday, 21 September 2012.
