5th African regional meeting on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and related workshops, Pretoria, 18 to 22 November 2013.
The SAICM secretariat, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Affairs, South Africa, and the Africa Institute Pretoria organized the fifth African regional meeting on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), and related workshops in Pretoria, South Africa, from 18 to 22 November 2013.
The aim of the regional meeting and related workshops was inter alia, to review progress and provide guidance on implementation of SAICM, identify regional priorities, exchange experience and share information on activities undertaken at the national and regional levels, review and provide input to the draft document on the Overall Orientation and Guidance to facilitate achievement of the 2020 goal of sound chemicals management and to consult the region on preparations for the upcoming second meeting of the Open-ended Working Group and the fourth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM4).
The meeting and workshops were preceded by a meeting of the African Core Group on SAICM on Sunday 17 November 2013 and will be held as follows:
- Monday 18 November 2013: Workshop on Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) tool-box for decision makers in Chemicals Management
- Tuesday 19 November 2013: 1st African workshop on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals
- Wednesday 20 November 2013: Information sharing session on SAICM emerging issues and other issues of interest
- Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November 2013: African regional meeting SAICM
