Arab sub-regional meeting, Cairo, Egypt, 1-2 April 2007
Following the adoption of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in February 2006, the regional meetings called for in the SAICM Overarching Policy Strategy by the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) in its resolution I/1 will be a key element in the collective efforts to commence implementation of SAICM. In response to the above request, the SAICM secretariat organized three regional meetings in 2006 for African, EU-JUSCCANNZ and Central and Eastern European countries respectively.
A meeting for Arab countries on implementation of SAICM was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 1 to 2 April 2007. The meeting was jointly organized by the SAICM secretariat, the Regional Office for West Asia of the United Nations Environment Programme and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the World Health Organization, with the support of the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, the League of Arab States and the Governments of Sweden and Switzerland.
