With the hope that those efforts will be continued and broadened for the important task of implementing SAICM, the Executive Director of UNEP has invited all potential donors to consider ways in which they might support the implementation of SAICM and the achievement of the Johannesburg Summit goal of achieving the sound management of chemicals by 2020. More specifically, attention was drawn to three specific requirements for the mobilization of resources at the international level: - the Quick Start Programme Trust Fund, -the broader Quick Start Programme and - the SAICM secretariat. Donors meetings On 11 June 2007, a SAICM donors meeting was held in Paris. The meeting was arranged as an opportunity for donors to have a preliminary, informal conversation on possible strategies for strengthening the financial base for implementation of the SAICM. The SAICM secretariat organized a second donors' meeting in Paris on 11 February 2008. |
