The generous contributions of donor Governments and organizations made the successful development of SAICM possible. UNEP and the SAICM secretariat would thus like to record their appreciation of the contributions of the Governments of Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Kenya, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Senegal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Uruguay and of the European Commission, the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety,  the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Development Programme, UNEP, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, the World Bank, the World Health Organization and the Zayed International Prize for the Environment.

With the hope that those efforts will be continued and broadened for the important task of implementing SAICM, the Executive Director of UNEP has invited all potential donors to consider ways in which they might support the implementation of SAICM and the achievement of the Johannesburg Summit goal of achieving the sound management of chemicals by 2020. More specifically, attention was drawn to three specific requirements for the mobilization of resources at the international level:

-  the Quick Start Programme Trust Fund,

 -the broader Quick Start Programme and

- the SAICM secretariat.

Donors’ meetings

On 11 June 2007, a  SAICM donors meeting was held in Paris. The meeting was arranged as an opportunity for donors to have a preliminary, informal conversation on possible strategies for strengthening the financial base for implementation of the SAICM.

The SAICM secretariat organized a second donors' meeting in Paris on 11 February 2008.
