Regional meetings
The International Conference on Chemicals Management
(ICCM) decided
its resolution I/1 that intersessional work should be promoted through, among
other things, regional meetings. The SAICM Overarching Policy Strategy, in
paragraph 26, indicates that the functions of the regional meetings will include:
(a) To review progress on implementation of
the Strategic Approach within the regions;
(b) To provide guidance on implementation to
all stakeholders at a regional level;
(c) To enable technical and strategic
discussions and exchange of information to take place.
Initial planning
for regional meetings was undertaken in consultation with regional focal points,
as reflected in planning notes of 10 May 2006
and 26 June 2006.
Regional meetings have been generously supported
by a number of donor and host Governments. The following regional and
subregional meetings and meetings of regional coordination bodies have been
held:
